Connectivity Working Group - Friday, April 11, 9am Pacific - Join us for the April Connectivity Working Group, where we'll hear from Matt Carlson, CEO of Aquanta, and Jeff Barnes, Emerging Technologies PM at SDG&E. Matt will discuss Aquanta's water heater controller, which turns any water heater into a smart water heater, optimizing for comfort, cost savings, and demand response flexibility. High Efficiency Elevators Webinar
Many of us use elevators all the time—but do we ever stop to think about their efficiency? Elevators and escalators use 2-7% of the energy required for most buildings, but there are opportunities to reduce consumption significantly, providing energy and cost savings and a lower carbon footprint.
Innovations in motor efficiency, methods for reducing standby power, improvements to lighting, controls, and ventilation are examples of the opportunities for reducing elevator energy use by 40% or more. Our panelists will discuss new technology, potential code requirements, and incentives that can help building designers, owners, and operators modernize their elevators and make them more efficient.
Elevators are the extension of the building lobby and powerful symbol of building quality, and improving their mechanical performance, controls and lighting offer building visitors an elevated experience in addition to the lower energy costs.

Harvey Sachs, Retired, The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)
Harvey Sachs, a former Visiting Fellow at ACEEE, has worked on building codes, standards, and market transformation for residential and commercial sectors, evaluating emerging technologies, and energy-saving programs. He joined ACEEE in 2001 as director of the Buildings Program. Before this, Harvey earned a Ph.D. in geological oceanography from Brown University and taught at CWRU and Princeton, focusing on indoor air pollution and energy efficiency. He has served in various policy roles, including assistant commissioner at the New Jersey Department of Commerce, technical director at the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium, and was active in ASHRAE.
Jeff Montgomery, Full Chain Project Manager, KONE
Jeff Montgomery is a full chain project manager at Kone with over 25 years in the vertical transportation industry, including more than 15 years at the director level. His expertise spans elevator electrification, signalization, product change management, and leadership of large, multinational teams across the Americas, Saudi Arabia, and the Asia-Pacific region. Jeff has successfully led major projects, driven global service strategies, and developed customer support frameworks while managing P&L responsibilities.
Craig Collins, Senior Associate, PAE
Craig has over a decade of experience in power systems. With a keen interest in advancing the integration of renewable energy, he has worked on numerous projects involving distributed generation and smart/micro grid systems. Craig excels at designing robust facilities systems for critical infrastructure.
